Measuring Success

Work is underway on an approach to measure the success of the Government’s response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry.

In November 2021, Cabinet undertook to develop an approach to monitoring the Government’s response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the terrorist attacks on the Christchurch masjidain. This will include identifying goals, ways to measure our success and the sorts of data we need to monitor to ensure we are on track.

Communities will be able to use these measures to hold Government accountable for achieving the vision and delivering on the recommendations in the RCOI Report.

We will be working with Kāpuia – the ministerial advisory group – government agencies and members of the public to develop these goals over the course of 2022.

Next steps

In July we hosted nine workshops with communities across the country to better understand what "a diverse, safe and inclusive New Zealand" (the vision agreed to by Cabinet in December 2020) means to them.

We are now reviewing and reflecting on everything we have heard to develop proposals for discussion with other government agencies and Kāpuia. These will then be reviewed by the Lead Coordination Minister for the RCOI response and considered by Cabinet.
