Social Media Transparency Statement

Staff at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) and its departmental agency, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will use social media to support our purpose of advancing an ambitious, resilient and well-governed New Zealand.

Social media will be used to communicate with stakeholders and to inform relevant communities about a range of work, and to provide preparedness and safety advice relating to emergencies.

While we appreciate differing viewpoints may be expressed, DPMC will exercise the right to moderate and delete comments or content when appropriate. Information that is offensive, harmful, in breach of an individual’s privacy or otherwise damaging will not be tolerated.

Private and direct messages on DPMC social media channels will be monitored. Where we determine that a message requires a reply, this will be done in a respectful, neutral and factual manner.

Members of the public have the right to raise any concerns about DPMC’s use of social media. This can be done by private or direct messaging the social media channel of concern, or by emailing media@dpmc.govt.nz or for NEMA emergency.management@nema.govt.nz. Any concerns or complaints will be dealt with in a timely manner.

As part of the public sector, DPMC is bound by political neutrality regarding use of social media.  Staff are also required to comply with DPMC’s Social Media Policy.
