- providing policy advice to the Prime Minister and Cabinet on a wide range of complex issues
- supporting the operation of Cabinet and Cabinet Committees
- ensuring advice across agencies and entities is coherent and takes account of all relevant viewpoints
- coordinating emergency management responses in a major disaster
- dealing with national security threats and advising on cyber security
- reporting on the planning and delivery of the Government’s key priorities
- managing public sector performance, alongside the Public Service Commission and the Treasury
- providing support services for the Governor-General
