Christchurch City Council's Cranford Regeneration Plan was approved on 17 August 2017 by Hon Gerry Brownlee, acting on behalf of the Minister supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration under section 38 of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016. It comes into effect on 31 August 2017.
During the second half of 2016 Christchurch City Council (the Council) began investigating the appropriateness of rezoning rural zoned land at the edges of the Cranford Basin.
On 23 December 2016 the Cranford Regeneration Plan Outline, was approved by then Minister supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration Gerry Brownlee.
Following public engagement, Christchurch City Council finalised and submitted the draft Regeneration Plan to Regenerate Christchurch for review in August 2017. Regenerate Christchurch then made a recommendation to the Minister acting on behalf of the Minister supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration to approve the draft Plan.

The public notice#
Pursuant to section 38(3) of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016, the Minister acting on behalf of the Minister supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration gives the following notice:
Minister Brownlee acting on behalf of the Minister supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration has approved the Cranford Regeneration Plan under section 38(1) of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act.
Christchurch City Council finalised and submitted the draft Regeneration Plan to Regenerate Christchurch for review in August 2017 following public engagement. Regenerate Christchurch then made a recommendation to the Minister acting on behalf of the Minister supporting Greater Christchurch Regeneration to approve the draft Regeneration Plan.
The Cranford Regeneration Plan enables urban residential development covering approximately 55 hectares of rural zoned land in the Papanui and St Albans area. The residential development would complement and be supported by the provision of community infrastructure such as cycle and pedestrian links to amenities such as schools, and access to public open space.
The Cranford Regeneration Plan comes into effect on 31 August 2017.
