The All-of-Government COVID-19 Royal Commission of Inquiry (AoG RCOI COVID-19) Unit within DPMC concluded its work in January 2025. The Unit’s role was to provide an AoG coordination function for the Commission’s Phase One report.
In December 2022, the Government announced Phase One of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic response.
The purpose of Phase One of the Inquiry was to strengthen New Zealand’s preparedness for, and response to, future pandemics by identifying those lessons that can be learnt from New Zealand’s response to COVID-19. It’s a matter of public importance that we do so, to ensure that New Zealand has appropriate and effective policies and practices in place for the future.
The All-of-Government COVID-19 Royal Commission of Inquiry (AoG RCOI COVID-19) Unit was established within DPMC in March 2023 to support the Inquiry’s initial phase.
This included providing an AoG coordination function by working with other agencies to reduce duplication of effort, gaps, and high transaction costs in relation to AoG information and material. The unit also ensured the provision of high-quality evidential responses to the Inquiry’s requests for information.
With the submission of the Phase One report in November 2024, DPMC’s role in Phase One and its all-of-government coordination function has now concluded.
