Update on Orders in Council under the severe weather emergency legislation#
The Severe Weather Emergency Recovery Legislation Act enables the Governor-General to make Orders in Council to modify other statutes to provide those affected by the severe weather with relief from legislative requirements that are overly burdensome.
The Cyclone Recovery Unit has published an update on the progress of Orders in Council.
Currently, tranches 1 and 2 are complete, with tranche 3 enacted on 8 August 2023. Tranches 4, 5(A) and 5(B) are also well underway, with enactment planned for 30 August, 6 September and late-September respectively.
There are no tranches planned beyond tranche 5(B) in August/September.
Hui for whenua Māori landowners and Trustees in Tangoio and surrounding areas continue#
Hui for trustees, landowners and residents of provisional Category 3 whenua Māori land blocks surrounding Tangoio continue this week.
The Cyclone Recovery Unit is inviting any whenua Māori landowners and Trustees in Tangoio and surrounding areas to attend online and in-person discussions about their cyclone-affected whenua and residential dwellings.
Appointments can be made for discussions by contacting the CRU at [email protected]. Times and dates are available on the CRU website.
Auckland Council makes it easier to access flood data#
Understanding the flood risk for Auckland property has become simpler thanks to a new online tool launched by Auckland Council.
The Flood Viewer is a free application that breaks down complex, technical flood risk data into an easy-to-understand format and sits alongside practical advice on how to prepare for floods.
Auckland Council calls for feedback on recovery plans#
Auckland Council is seeking feeback to help develop the Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Plan and refine the 'Making Space for Water' initiatives.
The Council want to know how the storms affected people, how Auckland can better prepare for future extreme weather events, and feedback on the ideas proposed in 'Making Space for Water'.
The feedback will inform how Auckland recovers from the recent storms and help shape how they build flood resilience for the future.
Feedback can be provided through this online form or visiting a library by Thursday 31 August.

Waka Kotahi#
- State Highway 25 temporary speed limit changes have been approved and we have commenced installation of the required signage. This is expected to take approx. 6 weeks to complete.
- Closures have taken place on State Highway 2 between Matawai and the Waioeka Gorge, with the road fully re-opening 5am Friday 11 August.
