The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) works to support the Government of the day and does so by advising, leading, supporting and coordinating activities across the public sector, as well as providing specific advice and support to the Governor-General, the Prime Minister and, most recently with the transfer of the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management (MCDEM) from the Department of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Civil Defence.
The devastating events of the past year, principally the tragic earthquakes in Canterbury and the Pike River mining disaster, along with the ongoing effects of the global financial crisis, will have a significant influence on the work of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in the coming twelve months.
The department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet operates at the centre of New Zealand’s government processes to provide professional advice and support to the Prime Minister and Cabinet and, through the Clerk of the Executive Council and Government House, to the Governor-General.
