ATHFIELD, Mr Ian Charles (Ath), CNZM
For services to architecture
Mr Ian Athfield has been a prominent New Zealand architect since the 1960s and was appointed the Architectural Ambassador for the Christchurch City Council after the 2010 earthquake.
As Architectural Ambassador he has been the leading architect providing design advice and co-ordination in the rebuilding process, following both the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. Mr Athfield is well known for the distinctive residential architecture that he developed in the 1980s. He has had considerable influence on the architecture in many centres around New Zealand, but most particularly on Wellington city with projects like the Civic Square, Adam Art Gallery, Wellington Library, Chews Lane Precinct and the Wellington Overseas Passenger Terminal redevelopment. He has had a considerable influence on a generation of young architects. He was President of the New Zealand Institute of Architects from 2006 to 2008. He has been a conjoint member of the Historic Places Council since 2010, and a member of the Board since 2009. He is a Trustee of Warren Architects' Education Charitable Trust and a member of the Māori Heritage Council. He judges many design competitions and has been key note speaker at numerous conferences in New Zealand and internationally. Mr Athfield has won more than 60 national and international architecture and design awards.

COLLINS, Mr Paul David
For services to sports governance
Mr Paul Collins has played a significant role in sports governance in New Zealand.
Mr Collins was a Governor of the Sports Foundation from 1986 and Chairman from 1992 until 1999, during which time he was instrumental in securing private funds to assist New Zealand's leading athletes to compete internationally. This body later merged with the Hillary Commission and then became Sport New Zealand, which he has chaired since 2009. He oversaw the separation of High Performance Sport New Zealand from Sport New Zealand to provide a greater focus on elite athletes and sporting bodies. From 1994 he played a leading role as a founding trustee in creating the Westpac Stadium and chaired the Trust from 2000 to 2012. He has had an active role on the Board of the Wellington Rugby Football Union since 1999 and as a director of the Hurricanes franchise from its formation. He was a member of the Rugby World Cup Bid Committee and served on the Board of Rugby New Zealand until the conclusion of the tournament in 2011. From 1985 to 1998 Mr Collins was Chief Executive of Brierley Investments Ltd, successfully growing the company to an internationally recognised conglomerate before establishing Active Equities Limited.

JORDAN, Mr Neville, CNZM
For services to business, science and the community
Mr Neville Jordan was named outstanding international business leader in the 2012 New Zealand International Business Awards, and won the science and technology category and the supreme award at the 2012 Wellingtonian of the Year awards.
Mr Jordan has played a significant role in the internationalisation of New Zealand companies. He was elected as President of the Royal Society of New Zealand in 2006 and held the position until 2009. In this role he worked to substantially raise the profile of New Zealand science. He spearheaded the establishment of the Rutherford Foundation. In addition he has served on the Board of the Foundation of Research, Science and Technology, the Prime Minister's Growth and Innovation Advisory Board, and was the Chair of the Crown Research Institutes Review Taskforce. He was appointed as one of three international peers to evaluate National ICT Australia, as well as being appointed to the Advanced Technology Institute Establishment Board in New Zealand. He established the Jordan Foundation which supports the education of young people in financial difficulty, as well as in research and the performing arts. Mr Jordan is recognised by his peers for his business success, and for Endeavour Capital, an innovative venture capital company he founded that invests in the New Zealand science and technology sectors.

LYNCH, Brother Patrick Joseph, QSO
For services to education
Brother Patrick Lynch has contributed services to education for more than 50 years.
Brother Lynch's was appointed as a Companion of the Queen's Service Order in 1991. Since then he has contributed at the strategic level, nationally and internationally in numerous education roles. These include membership of the Teachers Registration Board, a 15 year involvement with the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO, 12 years membership of the Education Review Office Quality Education Advisory Council and long-serving New Zealand Co-ordinator for the New Zealand National Excellence in Teaching Awards. He has served on numerous government taskforces such as the Ministerial Reference Group on National Standards and the Whakaaro Matauranga Reference Group on Māori Education. He currently serves on the board of trustees of four schools and is on the Community Advisory Board of the University of Auckland. He has been Chief Executive of the New Zealand Catholic Education Office since 1994 and represents the Association of Integrated Schools in relationships with the Government and the Ministry of Education. Brother Lynch is a contributor to international publications on education and is on the Editorial Board of the Australian Catholic University's electronic journal.

PANCKHURST, The Honourable Graham Ken, QC
For services to the judiciary
The Honourable Justice Graham Panckhurst has served as a Judge of the High Court since 1996 based in Christchurch and is due to retire in November 2014.
Justice Panckhurst became Crown Solicitor covering Canterbury and the West Coast in 1985 and then a barrister sole in 1992. In 1994 he was appointed Queen's Counsel. He was the leading defence counsel in the Fortex fraud trial and also appeared as counsel during the long-running Winebox Commission of Inquiry. He was a member of the Crimes Consultative Committee in 1989 and in 1992 he became the President of the Canterbury District Law Society. He has served as an Executive Judge in Christchurch for a number of years. He oversaw the lengthy pre-trial arguments and eventual trial of David Bain in Christchurch. He was appointed Chairman of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Pike River mine disaster from November 2010 to October 2012. He has been an esteemed member of the Divisional Courts operated by the Court of Appeal. Justice Panckhurst has fulfilled an important leadership role in the judiciary, particularly in the South Island in meeting the challenges for the administration of justice arising from the Christchurch earthquakes and the Pike River tragedy.

ROWLANDS, Mr Donald David, CBE
For services to business and rowing
Mr Donald Rowlands has served in executive roles for three major New Zealand companies and has made significant contributions to rowing both nationally and internationally.
Mr Rowlands has been a director of Hamilton Jet since 1990, was a past Chair and Director of Mainfreight Limited for 33 years and has had 48 years involvement with Fisher and Paykel, including time as managing director and CEO. He has previously served as President of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Association, the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, and a member of the Business Roundtable. He is held in high esteem for his focus on innovation. Having been a successful rower and Commonwealth Games medal winner in the 1950s, he has continued to be committed to improving sporting performance using new techniques and science. He is an honorary member of the International Rowing Federation Council. He is past President and a former committee member of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association and a former member of the New Zealand Sports Foundation. He was patron of the 2010 World Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro. He was a foundation member and is a past Chair of the Panmure Young Citizen's Centre. Mr Rowlands was inducted into the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame in 2014.

WILLIAMS, Mr Peter Aldridge, QC
For services to the law
Mr Peter Williams is one of New Zealand's most well-known criminal lawyers and has conducted more than 100 murder trials in a sixty year courtroom career.
Since being admitted to the bar in 1960, Mr Williams has undertaken some of the most significant trials in New Zealand's history, which have included representing figures such as Zion King, Arthur Allen Thomas, Terry 'Mr Asia' Clark, and the Bassett Road machine gun murderers. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1987. He established the Prison Reform Society after resigning as President of the Howard League for Penal Reform in 2011. He has been a relentless campaigner for prisoner rights, advocating for decent conditions during incarceration, rehabilitation and addressing the causes of crime. Mr Williams has argued for less focus on imprisonment and more on alternative residential facilities where offenders are involved in programmes directed at changing their behaviour.
