Disability Issues

Minister for Disability Issues
Current Minister:
Hon Poto Williams

Responsibilities include advocating on disability issues, overall strategy for the disability sector (including implementing and monitoring the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities), and promoting and maintaining New Zealand Sign Language.


The Office of Disability Issues, a unit within the Ministry of Social Development, provides the administrative support for this portfolio.
